Looking ahead to spring in Minnesota
Spring in Minnesota always feels like a turning point. After a long winter, people are ready to get out, connect, and breathe a little easier. This year, that feeling comes with extra weight. With Minnesota's recent ICE activity causing uncertainty and stress for many families and communities, not everyone feels safe or able to get out and shop in person right now, and that matters.
At Midwest Hobby House, I want to be clear: I support all people. Everyone deserves dignity, safety, and belonging. If shopping locally looks different for you this season, online instead of in person, later instead of now, that’s completely okay. My goal has always been to meet people where they are.
Inside the shop, spring energy is already blooming. I’m excited to be adding new wood-covered journals and sketchbooks, perfect for writing, drawing, planning and recording trips, or gifting. These have a clean, timeless feel and make a beautiful everyday companion for creatives of all kinds.
I’m also working on new night light designs, alongside the tried-and-true best sellers you’ve come to know and love. The classics aren’t going anywhere — they’re still here, still handmade, and still a favorite for good reason.
With Easter, Mother’s Day, and graduation season approaching, spring is full of moments worth celebrating. Whether you’re looking for something meaningful, practical, or just a little special handmade gift, I hope to have what you're looking for to mark life’s milestones.
I already have several spring craft sales and in-person events on the calendar, and this year is shaping up to be a busy one. If you’re able to attend a show, please stop by and say hi. I always love seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones. And if getting out isn’t an option right now, my website is always open and updated with what’s new.
Thank you for supporting handmade, small business, and community. Spring is about growth, care, and connection and I’m grateful to share the season with you.
Take care,
Julie
